Default IEW solenoid

I convinced a different dealer (since the first one wouldn't believe me) that it was my IEW solenoid malfunctioning and they replaced it. Its been 10 days now and I haven’t had a problem. They also checked my hubs and they said no damage was done. thanks for the info!

How much was it for the new hub, acuator, and switch? Was it both hubs or just right side? I just replaced the solenoid on my '04 FX4 Xcab and it still grinds. I'm sure my hubs are all torn up.

The problem with the IWE solenoid is when water drips on it it get s sucked in and fills the vaccum lines. This is why the updated solenoid has a plastic shroud over it. When the solenoid is replaced you are supposed to disconnect the lines at the hubs and blow them out to remove any water in them, then use a vac pump and apply vaccum to the hub actuators to remove any moisture there..

If you have the grinding while driving down the road you most likely have a vaccum leak. first look over all the lines to check for breaks or cracks. I usually disconnect at the solenoid and apply vac and see if it holds. if it leaks down then Go to the hubs and disconnect the lines and plug them and retry. If it holds vac then go to the hubs, and vac ea of them and see if they hold. The spec in the shop manual is no more than 1 in of vac per min.. The bad ones I have diagnosed usually drop steadily and pretty fast.. Some times you can reomve the halfshaft from the knuckle and clean the shaft and seals on the actuator and it will hold sometimes its the acutator it self. ( the wheel bearing grease will harden and get caked around the shaft where the IWE actuator seals on it )

When we replaced the solenoid on my '04 scab we disconnected the lines and blew them out. We heard a loud pop. It was the vacuum resevior that blew apart. So I went ahead and got a new one of those too. Have you heard of that happening?

lol yep, you blew through the wrong line. That was the supply line from the intake. Pretty common mistake, people look at the lines and see the split about 8" from the solenoid and assume its the line to the hubs but its not. Good thing they are pretty inexpensive huh!!

Thats awesome. Yeah, the part was like $33 or something. Its been making the grinding noise for about 2 years now so I guess I will have to take it to the dealer when I get an extra $1000 or maybe more. Any suggestions? Thanks.
