Default no 12v allowed in cigerette lighter?!?!

has anyone heard a reason behind this? many ppl dont know about it I assume but if you look in the owner manual of my 2006 it specifically says not to use the cigerette lighter on the center of the dash for a 12v plug. wtf? anyone have any ideas why? and does anyone use that outlet regularly and encounter any problems?

Every time I try and use it it won't work so IDK what the deal is. That is my only complaint with the interior of these trucks, not enough 12V outlets!

It has its own fuse. I have used it for power inverters, and everything else I can plug in. It has always worked fine.

Don't you have a 12 Volt power plug? I have one on my 95. You are correct there is really nothing wrong with using the cigarette lighter plug. I have the caution about not using the cigarette lighter for power as well and I really don't know why.

I use my cigarette lighter for my radar detector but I once put my 12 vlt air pump there and it blew the fuse so I see what they say to not use it for anything else

why not hardwire one/more of your gadgets. Just splice into another powered wire on your truck. Like intereior lights or something
