newbie on the forum
Hello everyone, just purchased a 2007 xlt with 44, 500 miles and decided to join the forum. Traded in my jeep liberty. Truck is a maroon color and in excellent shape. The previous owner took good care of it. (Regular maintenance) Been a long time since I've owned a truck and i'm loving it. Just looking for advice / ideas on things to watch out for, or things to do to the truck to make it better. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, and keep on truckin !

Okay so for full disclosure, I don't remember when Ford redesigned the spark plugs, so you should consider replacing them with brand new SP515s in case they're the old ones to avoid headache down the road. Look at your COP boots while you're at it. Listen for the common tick/knock at operating temp and at idle. See if you have the new IWE solenoid with the water shield built in. There's a bunch of other stuff you could check if you're bored, and I can definitely list them out for you, but for now you should be pretty good having relatively low miles on the truck.

The SP515 is made by Motorcraft, the official Ford part company. It's a similar design as the original, except now the second piece (ground electrode strap) is welded in place as opposed to being crimped on like the first design was. The IWE solenoid is located near the computer in the engine bay on the right side of the truck, top of the firewall (basically under the hood, right under the bottom right corner of the windshield). It controls the vacuum in the lines leading to your locking hubs on the front tires. When a vacuum is present in the lines, it locks your hubs open, disconnecting your front tires from the front axle to prevent wear and damage from not being in 4wd. When you activate 4wd, the IWE solenoid makes the vacuum go away and the hubs snap closed, connecting the front wheels to the front axle and engaging your 4wd. You can get this at a number of places, such as Rock Auto (rockauto.com), Amazon, or the OEM Select store on eBay. Stick with a genuine Motorcraft part for that, too.
