NEWB with how tire sizing questions
How does tire sizing work???? I though if the tire says 295 then it is a 29inch tire but apparently its a 35inch tire...?!
Can someone please explain how this works! Hahaha
Thanks in advance guys!

The first three numbers that your refering to are the numbers that represent section width, from sidewall to sidewall.. The next two numbers are like a ratio of how tall your sidewalls will be, and finally the last numberes are your rim size. example- 285/75R17 Take 285 and divide it by 25.4. there are 25.4mms in an inch. 285 / 25.4 = roughly 11.2 inches of section width. And now for sidewall height you take 11.2 X .75 and you get 8.4, thats gonna be your sidewall height. Basically the second number you treat as a percent when multipling it to your section width. And lastly if you want to find out how tall the tire will be you take 11.2 and multiple it by .75 and you get 8.4 now you take 8.4+8.4+17 and that will give you your tire heigth, which in this case it would be close to a 34.. 33.8 to be more precise.

Could of not said it better myself...a good website to show you all of this would be like www.tirerack.com where they can show you a lot of different things about tires, very informative website plus good place to compare most tires, not all tires though!
