Default New vct question

Sorry for one more vct question, but I have the tick at idle when warmed up. I unplugged vct's and nothing changed. Has anyone done the same but put the new style vct's in and got rid of the tick? I just don't want to waste $100 bucks.

I would change the weight of you oil first...go to 5W-30.. I read a lot of people have solved their ticks this way..

The tick doesn't really bother me all that much, as I can only hear it in drive thru or by buildings. I just don't want to prolong it if it's a phaser problem. That's why I figured I would try the vct's first.

I guess the fact that I unplugged the vct's and it stayed the same, does that completely rule them out, or is there still a chance the new ones will get rid of it

Mine was ticking changed to 5w-30 synthetic blend and it's never ticked again, plus it runs better

You're POSITIVE it's the cam phaser tick and not an exhaust manifold leak tick? I have the exhaust manifold tick and can hear that when going by buildings, etc., the cam phaser tick I have is very minor compared to the exhaust tick and that's not noticeable at all when driving around. Your cam phaser tick could be much worse than mine though if you're certain it's the cam phaser and not the exhaust manifold leak...

Ordered my VCT solenoids this week to hopefully get rid of the slight tick before it becomes a major tick.

No not positive. It's hard to pin down. Can really hear it good in the wheel wells. Just like the tsb its there only at idle when warmed up. In the cab can't hear it.

Did you try youtubing videos of cam phaser noises and exhaust manifold noises? Try that and see which one your noise sounds most like before throwing parts at the truck. You may be chasing the wrong problem.

I have but its tough to tell. My reason for thinking it could be VCT or cam phasers is its not there when first started it's only there after it warms up at idle. On exhaust manifolds wouldn't it be there at startup then go away as the motor warms up?
