I know yours is a 4.6, but shouldn't be a problem.

Last Feb, towed my new (new to me) Chapparal 2550 SX from Ft Meyers, FL to upstate NY. Boat / trailer is right at 6400 lbs. Towed with my son's '09 FX4 w/ 5.4 and sailed along effortlessly at 65 mph most of the way, but MPG was down to in the neighborhood of 12 mpg during the tow. I think most of the drop was due to aerodynamics, since boat is much bigger than the truck.

After that tow and seeing how well his FX4 did, I bought an '04 Lariat Scab with the 5.4 and it tows just fine, but that transmission in the '09 is far better than the '04 with more gears and much closer ratio spacing on the gears during shifts. We didn't use OD during the tow unless section of road was long and flat (or forgot to push in the button after a gas stop, which there were many of).

One funny aspect of the tow, was son always had problems with the shifting on the '09 being very erratic. Went back to dealer many times about it. FoMoCo even gave him money back and extended the warranty to 100K on a lemon law settlement. After the 1300 mile tow, transmission now is smooth as silk. Guess we "beat it into submission" during the tow. HAHAHA.
