Default New Tranny!! EFFF!

Just took my 04 black beauty in to get looked at because of irregular shifting and dieing when i throw it into drive while having the break pedal pushed. After 5hrs of having a ford mechanic on the phone with a ford tech they finally found out metal shards in the tranny fluid, caused by the pcm reading the stock 17in wheels instead of the 20's that were put on(by previous owner) 5yrs ago. I guess things in the tranny were binding which was causing the irregular shifting and the dieing. So ford said for cost effectiveness to just get a re-manned tranny for 2700. I was surprised that the 20's threw the pcm out of wack that much, has anyone else had this problem? I'm no mechanic, but when i get my new tranny put in is their something in the pcm that will need to get changed so it reads the right wheel size? Finally my truck only has 70k on it and i now have to drop 3k in it which i wasnt expecting but, i just got my 10,000 military bonus so atleast i can afford it

the factory 20s have a taller tire. Its like a 32 and the 17s have a 29 or 30 something really small.

I have 20s and my speedo is way off.

Or would I be better off tryin to find a parts truck? It seems you can buy a 1997-2003 for less than a new trany

Just get it rebuilt it is generally the cheap thing to do. And upgrade it too.

I'm from nebraska. But where would i go to get a tranny rebuilt...local custom shop, dealerships? What are the upside/downside to getting it rebuilt compared to getting a re-manned one?
