Ok I just disconnected the battery again. Left it off for 30 minutes. Same problem. Controls om steering wheel don't work and no option for input jack. Any other ideas?

Is there an inline fuse for the audio controls on the steering wheel anywhere?

Yeah, sometimes there are built-in fuses along the way or even inside the radio.
Maybe go to a car parts store and see if they have a repair manual out of the plastic wrap... check wiring diagram. Library? I don't have a book either.

You say the radio plays but some gizmos don't work... that sounds out of the ordinary and more likely to be circuit board related. But I'm not an expert.

Perhaps this is unhelpful, but if you do pronounce it dead Crutchfield sells good stuff and you get the correct wiring to patch into the factory wires.

I put a new radio/CD/USB into my '07 first thing and it was easy.

I don't have GPS tho'.
