Default New (to me) king ranch: oil not registering on dipstick.

just bought an 05 king ranch and am loving it. I changed the oil yesterday afternoon, put in a full (as recommended) 6 qts of 5w20 but oil is barely touching the bottom of the dipstick. it's not even to the 1 qt low mark. i don't want to just go dumping oil into it so it shows up on a dipstick because a dipstick isnt always the most accurate measurement but i don't want to run it low either (just had to get rid of my mustang because i lost oil pressure and bent a rod). I know i added the proper amount but it's not registering on the dipstick so...what do you think??

if its a newer 04 and up 5.4 it holds 7 quarts. the older 5.4s (97-03) hold 6 quarts from what the local ford dealership told me a few years back so that may be the problem

Yes, you need 7qts in there, not 6!

Well I appreciate the responses and the warm sarcastic comments. I don have an owners manual and when I searched for the oil capacity I guess it gave me the older 5.4 even though I searced 05. But good to know it's 7 qts so thanks again. I'll be getting a haynes or chiltons manual when I go get another qt today. Thanks

Sounds like you have your answer, but I'm just throwing this out there, when i got my used 05, the dipstick would not seat all the way down. this obviously would give you a low oil reading. I can't remember what it needed, a small mechanical tweak of some sort. Fine now.

Now you will have an owners manual....go to the link below, select your model and year, and download the PDF file to your PC.
