Default Quite the interesting day off

Going to apologize for the long post up front.

So I had a day off today and planned on installing my volant cold air intake kit. I then forgot I hadn't ordered my custom tunes yet as the calibration form and my cart was still full on my computer. So I get on 5 star's website to complete my transaction and not 2 hours later Mike shoots me an email with my tunes for my intake and exhaust mods Yada Yada. I was stoked since he replied so fast and they were already done.

So I get home and put my stock tune ack on my truck and upload the custom tunes on my sf3 and start tinkering around under the hood. Long story short, I get the intake installed and all is good. I put the battery back in and install the custom 93 performance tune from 5star! All goes well so I fire her up and hear the air sucking and the flow masters rumbling and I'm pretty stoked to go on a little test drive and unleash the ponies.... not so fast.

I look down and this damn yellow light is lit up. I was pist. Check engine?! Trust me darlin, I've checked it and I'm ready to go cruising. All jokes aside I immediately shut her down and plug the tuner back in to pull the codes. P1639, pcm not recognized by truck or some garbage. I can't remember the official title but it didn't sound real good. So I get on Google and nothing I read on there sounded real good either. My heart is in my stomach at this point since I finally get my tunes and goodies on and something like this happens. I couldn't even tune my truck back to stock to attempt to put a canned tune back on for the time being. Hey at least the kit looks good under the hood, right?

The truck has always started and I even took it on a little test drive around the neighborhood and it seems as though the tune I ordered was installed as the throttle response is much more senitive and it's running fine. I immediately emailed Mike at 5star and am patiently awaiting a response. Not expecting anything until Monday as tomorrow should be a day off but it's definitely a tad frightening. Luckily I believe I pulled a stock tuning file from the device and I've read that can be a good place to start so we shall see.

I appreciate it if you made it through the entire post and I'm welcome to all opinions as to why something like this would have haopened? I've never had a problem installing tunes in the past and I did it the same way as I always have (although somewhat differently this time around, I suppose). Thanks all and have a great evening!

I'm new to the programmers and I run an Edge not SCT but could it have something to do with the HEX code numbers not matching? I'm not sure about SCT but PHP custom tunes on the edge require the HEX code is assume if this number was wrong it could cause some issues

X2^^^ could definitely be a hex code issue.. It's written right on your PCM.. Call 5 star and see what he has written down for your hex code..

Did you end up getting the cold air tow hook scoop with your Volant?

Thanks guys. I came to work early to set up so I could call sct this morning and then 5 star as well if needed. But I will look into both of those!

I didn't get the scoop. I figured I could go back and get it later rather than trying to sell it if I wasn't gonna use it

Hey all just an update. Just got off the phone with sct. I'm waiting for them to build a recovery file to get my truck back to stock and then I got to call 5 star and ensure I have the right tune file to match with my truck for a proper upload.

The moral of the story, check your tuners for updates and if there is one, install it. I swear I'm stupid sometimes.

Well I just got off the phone with sct again this morning, My device wasn't updated and they worked their magic and got it updated. I returned to stock all is well and I'm currently uploading my 5 star tunes now. Apparently since my device wasn't updated the tuner would wipe the Vin when installing custom tunes. That's what the update for my tuner fixed. Had I known that ahead of time I would have made sure to double check that my tuner was updated! Oh well live and learn! All should be well here shortly!
