Default New (to me) 07 Lariat - Questions

Howdy Yall,
I recently upgraded from my 95 F350 7.3 to an 07 F150 screw Lariat 5.4 (still have the 7.3). I have a few new owner questions...

The PO used conventional oil every 3-4k miles at the local NTB. Will I harm anything by switching immediately to full synthetic? I'm thinking synthetic in 5w-20 will do me good to potentially avoid cam phaser issues, etc.

What is the box hanging down behind my rear view mirror? Is it maybe the control box for the automatic dimming function? I have a light bar right in front of/under it and want to make sure I'm not obstructing anything.

How can I tell if my mirrors are heated with the rear window? Is there a little defroster logo on the mirror glass like I've seen in other cars?

Thanks, and I'm sure I'll come up with some others!

I bought an 06 Lariat with 76k miles on and I switched to full pennzoil synthetic as soon as I brought it home. As for the heated mirrors, you should have button to the bottom left next to the fain button on the climate center. It should have a mirror with the defrost in the middle of it. The box on ur mirror is ur auto dimming function. Good luck with the truck. Enjoy it.

May be different on Lariats, but the little box behind mirror on my XLT is for compass. I switched from conventional 5w20 to Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w20.

Thanks for the info guys. So far I love this truck! I need a good weekend to install my other accessories and wiring and stuff but it sure is smooth, easy and quiet to drive compared to my 7.3 and it runs 80 on the highway no problem!
