That is exactly what mine would do up hill and I tramped it and then the engine light stayed on, so then I looked at code and said mis Fire, thought I read 8 mis Fire, but now that you said that it probably said misfire on #8. I am changing vct selenoid as the drivers side is sticking for sure as when I unplug it the stumble goes away in parking lots, no I have not changed plugs yet as I ordered them and waiting to get them in, thx

Well guys I'm not a very happy camper right now...... I got new vct parts in and realize I needed a T27 bit but the opening will only fit a long screwdriver or a long Allan key style torq bit, so I buy these new tools to do job and damm tool is long enough but I can't keep it straight enough to hit the top of screw. My seal has a small ledge to keep seal from going in to far, so looks like I gotta pull valve covers off, rrrrrrrr unless I drill new hole straight down and then use a plug after to block hole......can anyone fill me in on what I can try next as I really don't want to pull covers off, also do valve cover gasket need to replace, thx
Darren

Well guys this my update for my vct solenoid parts, after 2 weeks of looking for and ordering tool to reach the damm scene, I finally found one and so I loosened up the screw
But now when I pull it all up it won't clear the seal flange, that has to be the worst design I have ever seen, now I must pull valve covers rrrrr thx

I didn't realize that no one said after 2005, that to replace the solenoid's the covers absolutely have to bee removed.

Well masitile, mine is an 07 so don't know about 05, or is that what you are saying that the 05 have same problem. So I would also like to know that if I change plugs should I be changing that rubber boot between plug and coil pack and understand there is a spring in there as well, thx

Yeah Darren it was a piece of cake on the 04-05's to remove & replace the solenoid's.
They were inserted thru the top of the valve cover. It was literally a ten minute job on each side, with new seals.

Yes, I say always replace the rubber boot. Maybe I'm mistaken with other brands but from my experience with Motorcraft and Accel's, they came with boots anyways.
Straight boots, and always use Dielectric grease applied on the inside of the coil boot.
Makes for a good connection and keeps the elements out.
It can be very easy to switch a digit on the part # and end up with angled boots. So definitely check that you are getting the straight version.
Like the previous guy reiterated, changing out the plugs and coils should be priority one. Easy for me to say, I know..it's not my $200/$300 bucks.
It is a must, if you think your getting misfires. Which could lead to catalytic converter issues. Your symptoms indicate that could be the issue.

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately they did revise the solenoids a few times. So I know that's going to be a ball buster, but it's worth it. They definitely quieted down the knocking.

Yes I will change it all plugs and coils, but the 07 vct solenoid I got the screw out and it to take out and bammmmm the vct would not fit through the hole with extra that is on for that damm screw, so unless I take a small wheel grinder and grind the complete lip off the seal base I will have no choice to take valve covers off, rrrrrr. So has anyone need to do that and how much bs was it, are the gaskets metal ones or do need to replace, the problem is to find a day to do it all, I am so buy its crazy......thx in advance ...
