Alright guys so I just ordered a two 16" pro comp electric fans and a derale 16759 wiring kit. I know how to mount the fans and the wiring comes with instructions so I'm not worried about it. However there is one extra thing I want to know how to do. I want to wire up two LED 's(one for each fan) and mount them in my cab and them to illuminate when the fans are running.

How would I go about that?

Also if any of you guys have installed electric fans let me know how you like them. I'm going to do the gotts mod as well and get a custom tune for my gryphon finally as well.

I'm not sure how the wiring harness is but just a basic assumption here. When you get them find the wire that gets power once the fans turn on, splice off of that and run it to an LED in the cab. Then just ground the other lead on the LED and you'll be good.

Yeah I was thinking to get the hot wire running between the fan and the controller for each fan.

Please accept my condolences. I wonder just how much research you've done

First - the Procomps are junk - they actually pull less than half the cfm under load ( e.g. against a rad ) than they spec. The low current rating and the flimsy construction reveals the sad truth. If you overheat in gridlock in high summer during a heatwave with the A/C on, you'll know why. The lack of a shroud just makes it worse. ( Motorcraft RF-269 efan would have been a good pick).

Second - the marginal on/off relay controller has a history of melting at the connectors - at least crimp them a bit more and use dielectric grease - hopefully it will last a few months. (DCC's Constant Temperature controllers would have been a good pick).

Third - if you tie the LEDs into the power feed for the fan motor(s), be aware that the fans, when inactive, will freewheel while yer truck is in motion - and the LEDs will illuminate as a result. Additionally - running a tap from a high current source back through the firewall unfused is a recipe for disaster - and is flat bad advice. Isolation - with relay(s), a simple electronic circuit, etc - will solve both problems. DCC offer indicator light options (and remote speed control options).

If you spent some time searching on here it may have led you down a different (better) path.

Point is - yer daily driver truck's primary cooling system is the LAST place that you want to economize and use suboptimal components on.

I have researched it. I've seen many people who have went with the pro comp fans with good luck and the controller as well also has good reviews. I do admit I was a bit skeptical about ordering cheaper fans. Actually I was a bit skeptical about electric fans at all. However, I very rarely use my a/c at all. Especially in the summer, I do very little stop and go traffic, and from my research I've gathered that you mainly use the fans in stop and go traffic. Otherwise moving along down the highway keeps your vehicle cool enough.

I will be setting an alert on my gryphon programmer to help monitor it just in case.

Do you have any other details on the controller failure? I'll be sure to keep an eye on it and maybe work around it.

I'll more than likely be installing under drive pulleys as well within the next month of so...
