Default New guy needs help.

New guy here who needs alot of help. I have a 2006 FX4 supercrew and I just ordered the Bilstein 5100's to level it. I want to run 35's (maybe 33's), either the Toyo MT or the BFG MT KM2. From what I've read, most people say it will work with the OEM 20's that I have. OK, here is where I get confused:
1. What will cause it to rub, the overall size of the tire or is it the width?
2. Does having an after market wheel make it fit better (no rubbing)?
3. The aftermarket wheel I may get one day list this information: SIZE 20 x 9 BOLT PATTERN 6X135, OFFSET +10 mm BACKSPACE 5.39" HUB BORE 87.0 mm, SIZE #2 20 x 9, BOLT PATTERN 6X139, OFFSET +10 mm, BACKSPACE 5.39" HUB BORE 106.1 mm.
4. If I get this wheel, will it work with the 35's?
5. If I step down to 18" wheels does that help fit 35"s better?

Sorry so long for my first post, I'm just trying to make sure I know what I'm doing before I spend alot of coin. My Bilstein's will be here probably on Friday and I may get the tires this weekend. Any help would be greatly appreciate. I will be sure to post pics when complete. Thanks.

I have an 08 screw FX4 and wanted to do the same thing with my 20in wheels...I want to run the KM2's (which by the way are not availible yet in the 20in size) I was told that 35's will hit the front bumper and also when you turn lock to lock ...you will have no flex without hitting or rubbing...this is just with the leveling kit like I have installed...if you lift it more...that 35's should be no problem...I am waiting for the BFG mud's KM2 305/55R20/E overall its a 33.5 and 11.50 wide and should not be a problem with rub or hit. I also like the TOYO MT thats my next choice if BFG don't get off their butt's and start making some tires. I also understand that dropping down wheel sizes don't help this problem due to the fact that tire size incresses as wheel size de-crease's That's me take on it...Good luck.

I know this probably isn’t the answer you are looking for, but I will do my best to help from what I have researched. I am not a tire guy and I am still learning a lot about the difference sizes.

You said you ordered a Bilstein 5100’s leveling kit, how many inches are you planning leveling it to, 2.0in, 2.5in, 3.0in, etc?

I don’t know with 100% certainty, what causes the rubbing, I assume having a tire too big, both width and height, for the space provided is what causes the rubbing, which a leveling kit will definitely help. It is my understanding that a 2.5in leveling kit is standard for most truck owners who want to put bigger size tires on their trucks but I have seen some put a 2in leveling and a 3in leveling kit on their trucks.

I don’t think it makes a difference, weather the tires are stock or aftermarket, that causes them to rub. You should be able to go up to a 35x12.50R20. I only have 17in rims on my truck so after I put a 2.5in leveling kit on it this weekend. I plan on throwing on some BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO 315/70R17 (35x12.50R17).

I think as long as the tire size matches the rim size (The last number in the size 315/70R17), you should be good.

Thank you guys who replied.

(The Boz) the Bilstein's I purchased will lift the front 2 inches. Now I recently read on here somewhere that some guys were getting a slight bit more than 2 inches. I guess when they get here, I'll just have them put on and see what it looks like.

(Tecrep) You said in you post that BFG does not make the KM2 in a 20", but I'm almost positive I saw them listed on 4x4 parts. Now I don't know if they actually have them in stock, but I believe they list them on their website. Something like a 325/60R20. They were listed at like $460 a tire. Wow, crazy, but I like em.

Anyway, I appreciate you guys responding and I'll let ya know how it turns out.
