I was just curious, why did Ford only put a 4 speed tranny in the f-150? I wish i had that extra o/d gear for the highway. Comments....

probably to keep pace with the others. now that most have gone to a 5 or 6 speed auto, they'll keep up. the expy already has the 6 speed and the 09 150 should have it as well. possibly cost had something to do with it. maybe they wanted to see how the "other" brand trucks trannies held up before commiting to building their own. i agree that 1 more gear would be nice.

Seems perfectly geared already to me. I think the six speed is to keep up with the Joneses and all of the new F150 owners who don't know what Ford used to be about: reliability. Changing constantly brings resale value down. This is just more junk to break when they haven't even worked out the kinks in the new 4 speed.
