I don't blame you for what you're saying at all... I COMPLETELY agree with you on the "American Way" thing...
I'm just saying that he really wasn't doing anything TOO crazy for his truck to get as jacked up as it did =/

atom-no need to respond to you , you have issues dude, serious issues.
Lets get one thing very straight, I was NOT 4x4, it was not in 4x4, it was a very well traveled dirt road with a standard mud puddle in the road. Going 20-30m mph through a max 6 inch puddle is, on gravel has no chance of hydroplaning, there was not ever a safety issue with my family..period.
This is what concerns me, normal driving on a dirt road, a road that is well maintained by the Road Comm going through a mud puddle and this happens...sorry, if Ford will not back up a new truck that says FX4 Offroad and their commercials show trucks going through water etc..this wil be the last Ford I buy.
With thats said, this is my gut feeling...the Service Dept tried to float some extra money through, first the manager contacted me and said, you need to contact your insurance casue the warranty does not cover it...this really baffled me due to tthe conditions it happened-normal driving--than claimed around $1900 first, when we started to really question it, it dropped to around $1000 and finally when we said go ahead and do it(its gotta get fixed so I can drive it), the final bill was over $1200. Have not paid the bill yet-local Ford they know us, bought double digit vehicles from them over the years. Dealer G.Manager said he woudl handle it, well they didn't yet, and latest is they are trying to talk to Ford rep. but we keep getting bills and between servcie dept and sales, communication is poor.
Also, knowing the conditions is happened in, I think it was misdiagnosed on how it happened, BUT somehow fixed right, whcih doesn't make too much sense. Which brings me back to questioning what really got fixed and how much it really cost them...again trying to screw the customer on a slow week!!!?!? Maybe my fault with too much trust in the service dept., we never got the "bad" parts back or showed to us and I guess we need to look into what was really ordered(maybe ordered, never put in truck and sent back!?!?)????

6" of water would barely make it up to the bottom of his rim. The only question is how long was the mud puddle (1/4 mile, 1/2 mile?) If it was just a few feet long, I would be pissed if it took out my truck also. You can get 6" of standing water on a paved road fairly easy (drainage rates may not keep up with rain)
And I agree, Ford should not show those commercials where people are beating the hell out of the truck and saying "Ford tough" when in reality the truck will blow up with a few inches of water. Perception and reality can get confused by the buyer...
Directly from the Ford manual:
DRIVING THROUGH WATER
If driving through deep or standing water is unavoidable, proceed very
slowly especially when the depth is not known. Never drive through
water that is higher than the bottom of the hubs (for trucks) or the
bottom of the wheel rims (for cars). When driving through water,
traction or brake capability may be limited. Also, water may enter your
engine’s air intake and severely damage your engine or your vehicle may
stall. Driving through deep water where the transmission vent
tube is submerged may allow water into the transmission and
cause internal transmission damage.
Once through the water, always dry the brakes by moving your
vehicle slowly while applying light pressure on the brake pedal.
Wet brakes do not stop the vehicle as quickly as dry brakes.

I am probly going to get bashed for this, but here goes
I have read all opinions. Each side makes great points.
(It broke, and now he does want to fix it and wants ford to pay for it.)
(I shouldnt have to pay for it since its a regularly used dirt road by the comunity and it was only a 6inch mud hole.)
Hope that covers the jist of both opinions
i have personaly gone thru mud pits, deep water holes that came up to the hood of my truck and never have had any problems with my truck stalling out.(we had flooding here in west allis about a month ago,and i went thru a decline in the road where the water did reach up to my hood and the lower part of my winshield and never stalled)If it would have stalled i would not have asked for to pay for it cause its my own doing.
But i just dont see how i could make it thru that(if you dont belive me,ask the other 9 trucks that were with me)and his truck not make it thru a 6inch mud puddle.Ford does the fx4 edition playing in the mud and water in one of its comercials.I do have to go along with raider girl(by the way,how are doing, havent talked to ya ina while?)maybe it was a lemon truck. Also thoe we werent their to see if he was actually 4x4in,so we take his word for it..
I do agree with atom also on the,its the american way of life to blame someone else.
Lets all remember, this isa forum to help each other out and give each other construstive critisism. Not to get mad at each other.
Ok ya'll,let the bashing of my post begin ya'll,lol

Hell no i would man up and pay for it,lol.I was just stateing that how did my truck make it thru the mud pits i have been thru, and the deep water up to my lower windshield and still runs like a champ. No problem at all with mine.if mine can make it thru that,it leads me to belive his truck had other problems that he did not about and he might just infact purchased a lemon truck.
