I I brought my truck to the exhaust place and had them do my exhaust. They cut the muffler out just after the y before the muffler and the y'd it from there and dualed it to behind the back passenger tire like the raptor with 2 1/2 inch exhaust and 3 inch tips.

When I cold start it my truck is at like 1800 rpm and it resonates and is louder than hell I start my truck at 8 am and live in town.

Is there a reason my truck idles so high for 10-15 seconds after a cold start but bogs down right away to normal idle if I put it in gear?

It's fix that issuer or put a manga flow muffler on or something

So you have no muffler at all now? My understanding is that drone comes from the tips on our trucks. But having no muffler wouldn't make it any better either.

I had a flowmaster catback system with 3" tips and it was unbareably "droney", especially the morning after a few beers. I just had my exhaust guy rip that off and put in a flowmaster that runs and exits just like a factory with 2 1/2" pipe and a 3" tip. It is just right.

If your truck idles at 1800 on a cold start something isn't right!

I am not sure what mine idles at when I first start it, because I am not in it, but it does idle high. It is supposed to for warming up, like a "choke". It idles high for about 20-30 seconds then drops down to normal.

I believe it's normal for them to idle high upon cold start. Ford wants the emissions equipment to heat up quicker so that it will work correctly. I notice it more in the winter, maybe it's just my imagination.

You might want to consider a resonator or a glass pack to take the edge off that growl. But it kinda defeats the purpose a little bit...

My 02 f150 had no muffler and was wayyy more quiet. The guy at exhaust pros said it would be the same maybe a little louder because my 05 has 2 large cats instead of 4 small ones. This just sounds like a Midwest mod race car. I don't know that a glass pack would make it quiet enough. I think a muffler is the way to go because I still want a nice roar but not so damn loud. Any suggestions? Also thanks for the smart *** comments

Well, if you are going to put a muffler back on, you have a million options. You want to go cheap? A Flowmaster. They have a wide range of options from loud to not so loud. Magnaflow has another bunch of options, so you'll have to try to find sound clips if you wasn't to compare.

I paid $200 OTD to gave a Flowmaster 40 welded in lieu of my OEM muffler and have my exhaust tips cut off. I've read some folks got it a bit cheaper. It still rumbles, but it won't wake up the neighbors.

You'll need to add a muffler to it if you want the roar to be milder. I've been told mine sounds like a cherry bomb extreme muffler. I'm not sure what it is as it was on my truck when I bought it and isn't branded that I can find on the muffler. As for the high RPM's on a cold start that's normal to an extent. You're idling much higher than me. Mine idles at 1200 on a cold start regardless of temperature outside.
