new exhaust with headers installed, now infamous ticking noise?
Mornign guys and gals! Here's the latest from my end of the world.
I got my entire exhaust installed. Pacesetter headers, hi flo cats, x pipe, and true dual Bullets. This truck roars like a beast, and even got a gryphon tuner with custom 87 performance tune.
All sounds good, right?
Wrong.
Well, not entirely, the truck runs like a bat outta hell and feels entirely new. But I got the truck back from the exhaust shop, and I've got that dreaded ticking noise that sounds like a phaser. Problem is, the phasera were replaced about 20,000 miles ago. But that knock is clearly heard on the driver's side fender well, not so much at the top of the engine. They couldn't go out that quick, could they?!
Also, I can smell richness somewhere under the truck. The exhaust guy and I searced high and low with a stethoscope and couldn't find any leaks near the welds or the headers. I don't get it. Its not affecting the performance of the truck, but I'm afraid to think its the worst. Possibly a lash adjuster? Thoughts are appreciated!

I'm betting manifold leak. Does the ticking go away at higher rpms? It's hard to say it can be a handful of things causing the sound. It's crazy the amount of problems these trucks can have.

I'm betting manifold as well. But that ticking noise just really bothers me because its sounds like a phaser. It kinda eliminates itself at higher rpms only cuz the engine and and exhaust are louder. Can't hear anything in the cab either. Its just when I roll the window down. Can't find any black marks around the manifold either

As far as I know, every F150 that I have been in has that ticking noise. Mine has always done it. But I recently took my muffler off, and now I can only hear it in the cab. I don't think it's a problem.
