New brake pads, no more sluggish take off
Over the last few weeks I have noticed that my truck feels more sluggish and it takes more to get up to speed. I kept checking my gryphon to look for codes and nothing. Figured the dealership put some crappy spark plugs in before I bought it and that I needed to do a tune up with MC plugs. Well my back brakes started making noise, so today, I picked up a cheap set of brake pads and installed them, no more brake noise and all of a sudden, tons of power with take off and getting up to speed. The only thing that I can think of is that the rear brakes were binding. In the next few weeks, I intend to change all 4 rotors and calipers and put some quality pads on my truck just in the event that I may have a caliper that intermittently freezes up. 45 minutes of work and got my power back.

You could probably just get the rotors turned. I replaced my broken caliper last time with a Raybestos unit that came with a new mounting bracket. It works very nicely.

may have been the E-brake dragging...

Thanks for the responses guys, I did grease the guide pins to help with movement. I will be working on them in the next couple weeks to put some quality pad on them and will fight the rear rotors with a good hammer to get them off and change the e-brake shoes. The rear rotors are really on there good, got a 2 1/2 pound hammer to that hopefully will help with taking them off. Gonna clean up the e-brake cable "scissor" mechanism, I hear that it can seize up and cause issues with the e-brake operation as well while I am in there.

The shoes aren't the problem, it's the scissor lever. I had to beat mine back into two pieces with a hammer.

They really shouldn't be that hard to remove. I just removed mine a couple weeks ago for the first time with 115K on them. I tried the first time and they wouldn't come off. Then I turned the shoe adjuster back a few turns through the little hole on the back side and then they slipped right off. Before I put the rotors back on, I adjusted it back to where it was and the rotor slipped right on. I think they go on easier then they come off.

Thanks Rick, honestly thats usually the way I work on shoes as well, turn the adjuster some. When I get to this in a couple weeks, hopefully I will find that the PO didn't put it on backwards and it loosens the right direction of turn. I had a durango where the PO put both of the adjusters in backwards and after turning the adjuster the right way, all it did was tighten it more.
