If you're going for a clean look, make sure you know the exact measurements of where you want to put it and of the radios you're looking at. I wasn't too worried about a clean install when I got mine, figured I'd be able to find somewhere to put it that wasn't too ugly. But it was a lot bigger than I had anticipated. Another 1/4" wider and I don't think it would have fit where I put it, and depth kept me from pushing it in as far as I wanted.

I don't have the full length console but this might give you an idea at least. Radio is a Cobra 29 LX.

Rumpled feathers? you are most definatly not licensed to operate on any of the 40 cb chanels in the 11 meter band with any radio capable of more than 4 watts out put am or 7 watts on side band there is no such licence issued in th United States and while there are thousands of pirrate stations on the air who dont abide by the rules it is none the less illegal just the same your chances of being caught are slim but the fines are stiff if you are

CB is 11 meter. Many of the "export radios" are actually 10 meter radios that have been, or can be, modified to run on CB channels. Most of them are not FCC certified which (according to my understanding) makes them illegal to possess, regardless of certification. Even when you're talking about legal 10 meter radios from Kenwood, Yaesu, etc, transmitting more than 4 watts on CB channels is illegal.

Now, keep in mind there are tens of thousands of truckers and base stations all running 400w+ on CB channels illegally every day. So, it's illegal kind of like driving 3mph over the speed limit is illegal.

Even though I'm a novice I'll explain my setup haha. Because I am not dependent on my radio and view it more as something interesting to listen to on the highway I purchased a Cobra 18 which has 40 regular channels as well as weather channels. I am running a 48" Firestick antenna mounted to the rail of my cam-locker toolbox. I have enjoyed it but am looking at upgrading to a steel whip and more powerful head unit. Like i previously mentioned, however, I am by no means an expert on the topic. If anyone has advice about a decently pried head unit and antenna any help would be appreciated. No thread hijacking intended haha.

I figure only about 30% of CB'ers run legal any more Bubba. And more for the other side of the fence. Amateur radio went from 6 licence classes, most with morse code requirements, down to 3 with no morse code requirements. Before, the Technician class had limited "spots" thru a few of the HF bands they could talk on. Now it's almost everywhere.

Lots of online help pages. And Everyone is there for advice.

Bubba, on side band, a barefoot cb runs about 12 watts. Sounds a little funny but once you get use to it, you really enjoy the extra range. Ya wanna talk extra channels? my Yeasu FT100 will go from 1.8 Mhz up to somewhere around 500 Mhz. Thats 160 meter band to the 70 centimeter band. CB being 10 metter, what guys, around 26, 27 Mhz. 10 * 3 = about a 30 foot wavelength.
with factory 100 watts. There is an antennae that's made to match it that has a built in tuner in the antennae.

I used this guys practice page over 15 years ago: http://aa9pw.com/

You can transmit voice or data in FM, AM (Single Side Band), Code Wave, riTTY, FAXimiley, Phase Shift Keying, Moon Bounce (exactly what it says), there's always someone on the International Space Station to talk to as it passes over (only have about 4 to 8 minutes to talk), there's also Echo Link, some call it cheatin'. Thru the internet you can patch into someones radio and talk thru their radio across the state, country, or around the world. kd5ckp, Tim thought it would be funny. He gave me the patch for his radio in Mineral Wells, MS the the patch for another radio. The dn thing was in Japan! And I was runnin 5watts on a handytalky on a 1/4 wave magmount!

I have a few Export radios Ranger VR 9000 and a Ranger 2950. Some radios like Ranger, Galaxy, Magnum, Connex, Stryker, are 10 meter 28Mhz ham radios but you can convert them to 11 Meter 27Mhz band with a tune up. My radio keys 2 watts and swings to 50 watts. Check out Bells CB radio BIG RADIOS.
