Change the plugs and keep the COPS. Just change the boots and springs on the COP's. Take a paperboard type fingernail file, cut it in half long wise and file the copper contact in the COP (of course both sides of the contact) after removing the old boot and spring. Use a conservative amount of dielectric grease on the end of the boot when re-installing. This should make your COP's last around 150K.

Is there anything I can do to make getting the plugs out easier so hopefully they don't break off? I read somewhere about something called seafoam? I think I am just going to take truck to my mechanic who has worked on my vehicles the last 13 years. He is honest

Conservative amount of penetrating oil left to soak overnight with the plugs cracked a 1/4-1/2 turn.

If you're only getting #5 misfire and no random misfires then I'd have your mechanic just focus on that cylinder so your not paying for parts + labor for 8 cylinders hoping it resolves the misfire. If your CEL was flashing then that means the o2 sensor detected raw fuel so that narrows it down to spark/ignition.
