Default Transmission Shift Cable

My transmission shift cable just popped off. Thankfully, these forums pointed me to the exact problem and solution for the original issue, can't get transmission out of reverse. So, I just snapped the transmission shift cable right back on for the transmission side. Which option would you do?

Options:
1. Purchase a new shift cable replacement
2. Purchase a bushing kit - https://www.bushingfix.com/2004-ford...ng-repair-kit/
3. Zip tie the cable so that it can't fall off.

Bushing
Dorman 14057 may work for you depends on your cable style if it's kind of got the square end Or 14041 is the one that is supposed to work for the round style end

The 14057 has the bushings for both styles.

I bought the Dorman 14041 bushing kit. I used the second to the smallest bushing and pushed it into the cable. Then slid it on to the linkage. Seems to work as expected. Thank you all.

I have the same issue, bought the kit for the bushing. the fits the cable end fine, but wont pop all the way onto the pin. How did you get it mounted securely?

Make sure all of the old bushing is off of the stud. I had the same problem. The lip of the old bushing was still on the stud.

the stud is clean. I also tried putting the plastic bit in hot water to help soften it, but to no avail.

This is as far as it goes on, which doesn’t hold. I'd appreciate any insight into how to get that bugger mounted.
