The wire is the purple wire. It is fairly easy to find.

Open the back door on the driver side

Remove the plastic threshold

There are two purple wires running into one purple wire that runs up the rear pillar next to tge rear seat. It should have black cloth tape on it. I took a photo I'll post it in a minute.

Its hard to see but that is two purple wires running from the direction of engine with only one wire coming out on the side of the rear of the truck.

I just cut all three wires cleaned them up and soldered them back together. Applied electric tape and it has worked with no problems.

^ good post! Mine was a broken wire in the drivers door jamb harness . I fooled around with the harness and the radio would go off so I peeled the loom back and was able to see the bad wire.

Default Thank you

I just want to thank everyone for this awesome post. I went and found those purple wire splice thingies and they were corroded right through. I cleaned them up, gave a little solder and the radio problem I have been living with for over a year now is fixed. My god, I mean I was on the verge of taking it to the dealer where I'm sure they would have charged at least 500 to do the same thing over a week or so. I cannot describe my joy at the simplicity, ease and speed of this fix. It took me ten minutes start to finish. My God, I love this forum. Thanks again to everyone with their questions and those who had the knowhow to answer so effectively.

The copper surface had been completely hydrolized. The wires were separated completely from one another and indeed, were wrapped with freaking hockey tape.

I had to move the plastic by the pillar back a bit to get to the spice, but it was precisely where I was told it would be. My God I love it when stuff is this simple.

Default purple wire

Sorry to bring this up again, but i am having the issues with the radio not turning off, interior lights not turning on, i have no audio, and power windows still work with key out and after door opened. I have tested the relay, looked everywhere for the purple wire splice( dont seem to have one in my truck) and also did the data test to see if my door latch was not working correctly, my truck is an 07 f150 supercrew xlt, now this purple wire thing seems to be only in the lariat editions around 04 (at least thats all ive seen from ppl who post their truck type) can someone please help me, and also let me know if this purple wire is in other editions (xl, xlt, fx4, etc.) Please and thank you

Default purple wire

I also have this problem. radio will not shut off when key is out and door opened and then shut and locked, the radio keeps on playing. I have a 2004 f150 fx4 and don't seem to have a a 2 to 1 purple wire splice any where in that area. I pulled fuse 31 labeled "radio power" for the time being until it gets warmer out and may take out seats and carpet looking for any wires that look bad rather than just a purple.

You have to follow the bundle of wires up about a couple inches up the purple wires are near the center/bottom. You are going to have to cut the tape that holds the bundle together and look for them. After you find them, follow them up until they go into one.

Default look farther up the post

I had this same problem you will find you have a few options on the control panel like auto lock setting and a few other things that are just not quit right. The two purple wire go all the way to the back and then turn up into the piller which makes it a little hard to find because its up under that piece of trim that covers the piller. I had a hard time fining it but its there like one of the other posters said cut the bundle out or the track and pull the wires apart. After you find the wires and repair check to see if your brake light up on the back of the cab is leaking, to do this turn on the heater fan to full fan then shut the doors and spray something with bubble in it. If the truck blows bubbles you need to take the tail light out and reseal it so no more water finds its way down inside the door frame and causes the issue agian

corroded wire broke off

see where the single purple wire goes up into the rear piller

the bundle needs to be pulled apart

corroded wire ends
