Default need help, please!!!

in the market for a trade in. an 05 ****ty tiny jeep grand cherokee for a glorious f250!!! the only debate now is diesel or gas. is there any way i can check for major issues involved with either motor tpe or would any of you kind souls have any input. i think i would prefer a diesel just for service life. however i turn wrenches but am unfamiliar with a diesel. its gonna be more or less a daily driver but occasional put to its intended use. thanks in advance.

Most avoid the 6.0 powerstroke, but if left unmodified I have heard they are okay. If heavily modded they need egr delete and head stud work.

I'm not 100% sure as to what engines where available during certain model years but I would stay away from the 6.0 Navistar all together, no matter what. Overall if you were to do heavy hauling on a regular (daily) basis then I'd stick to a diesel. If not then get a 6.8 V10. I have a Hemi in my Ram 1500 so I feel the 5.4 is barely adequate for an F-150 so it would be worse in an F-250 with a heavy trailer. I think the 6.4 compound turbo diesel was monster of an engine but required cab removal for maintenance. Just remember that with diesel there is a lot more stuff you have to look out for but it provides tremendous low end torque that you can't find with the 6.8 V10.

03-07 for the 6.0s. If budget limited look for a lower mileage 7.3, 99-02.

Yeah I've looked for the v10s and they are hard to find. I was leaning towards the 6.0l turbo d but only because I think the v8gas is under powered. I won't be doing to much hauling but if needed I want the ability. My jeep is tiny inside with 14-16 mpg city and 18 at best hwy. Let alone a dodge is a pain to work on. Thanks guys looking like a turbo d for me! Yeaaaaaaaa. Or late model 7.3

7.3 powerstrokes are great motors, a few of them at my work have over 300,000 miles and they keep trucking along

A 6.0 is a mistake in my opinion. There are plenty of 6.0's that have had cab-off repairs completely stock. You would be better off buying a 7.3 or in my opinion a Cummins that will outlast both. 6.4's are expensive and if you are looking for a cheaper diesel I would recommend a Duramax LLY or LBZ.

I've heard bad things about the 6.4 as well... Probably not all of them but the ones I've been told about

Haven't looked at the chevy but I am a gm guy at heart. However no truck looks better then a 250. And dodge? Probably not. Thank you fellows you've been a great help.
