Default Need help

So I know on the older vehicles if you have the truck running and pull the battery connector off if it dies instantly your alternator is bad. Is that still true in today's trucks? (2005 f150 5.4)

Also, a volt meter to back of alternator checking to see if its putting out proper voltage works to.

Thanks. I'm going to autozone later to let them check it. But I tried that last night and it died instantly and my gauge cluster said check charging system

This subject is questionable. Altho it does work as a way to test your altenator, it is possible to fry your PCM with the voltage spike when you hook it back up.

do not take that battery cable off, you can really mess some stuff up doin that. todays vehicles arent designed for that
