Default Need Advice On RE GEAR

Hello all!

I've been bumming around and got some cash saved for my new tires. I was going to swap out my 305/55r20 Cooper Zeons for some 295/60r20 Trail Grappler. I've been reading every where that people should re gear for bigger tires to save your tranny. I want to do things right and I definitely don't want a truck that is sluggish. So here is some calculations so you guys can help!

My tires are

33.2" Tall
12.44" wide with my 20x10 fuel krank it weighs in 104
With the wheel being 44lbs and the tire 60lbs.

With the 295's, they weigh in 122lbs. They are a 78lbs tire.
33.45" tall
12.13" wide

So in the end I will be gaining 18lbs
Gaining 1.25" taller
Losing .31" in width.

I talked to my dads friend who knows a lot. He said weight isn't always the factor about re gearing. It is how tall the tire is for your transmission and gears to turn that tire. I want to have stock gears again when I get the 295's.
So should I get 4.10s? I have 3.55 I think. I have a 2005 lariat 4x4.
I definitely don't want a sluggish truck. After I get new gears I'm going to get a tuner or programmer or whatever.

So what do you guys think? 4.10s should put me back to stock? A

And what are some good solid gears? What are really good brands? I don't want cheap crap.

I'd say go for 4.10s with 33's. don't forget the front axle is 8.8 reverse cut when you go to order them.

So you think 4.10s would be good? I've been talking to a lot of 4x4 shops and they said 4.56s would be too much for the truck.

And I just checked, my truck does have 3.73s with limited slip.

What's the difference between different slips?

For a 33inch tire I would leave as it is if you already have 3.73. That size tire isn't going to do anything to your transmission. If your worried about losing a little performance I would just use a fraction of the money you have for gears and buy a programmer and call it good.

I'm on 33's now with a tune. Had stock 3.73's.... Truck ran good.... I'll be picking the truck up today for a gear change 4.56's.... I'll let you know how I like them..... I do plan to get 35's when my 33's wear out.

Yeah I have 33s right now, but I'm going to switch to 34.45" so a 34.5" tire. So should 4.10s be good?

And yeah let me know how they do!

So you guys all think 4.10s would give me pretty good? I drive 80% freeway/highway then some street driving on the weekend. I have 3.73s now.

I personally don't think you should even consider re-gearing until after you've put the new tires on and gotten a programmer. You probably won't feel like you need to.

I'm on 33's and just re-geared to 4.56 from 3.73's...... It not bad at all. Before when I was at 75mph at 2000rpm now i'm at 60. I do plan to run 35's later..... But if you are gonna stay at 33's 4.10's will be perfect

I plan on getting the nitto trail grapplers 295/60r20 in the next month. They are 34.5 inch tall and 12.13 wide. And weigh 77.8 pounds. I just don't want to be sluggish. So if 4.10s will be good for that then I will! I just hear a lot that 4.56s are too high of RPMs if you are on the freeway mostly but good if you drive about town.
