Question mystery electronic box near rear axle

I just had to use my spare for the 1st time. I noticed a desintegrated electonic box mounted on the frame above the spare. I assume it has to do with emissions. Anyone know what it is and where to get a scematic and/or part#?

My guess would be that it is part of the Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP). Specifically, the EVAP Canister Assembly is what is located above the spare. I'm not real knowledgeable about the system, but it basically absorbs fuel vapors and dumps them into the intake manifold where they mix with the incoming air/fuel mixture. As for a part #, I have no idea. Hope this helps.

there are evap parts back there, there is also a fuel pump driver module
measures about 4"x4" in size one connector.. it is commom for these to rot. people dont see it until the truck don't start..

Yes, I was looking for that article to link.

DORMAN, I find it interesting that the Tinman from the Wiz of Oz was rusting at all... Industrial tin plating is used to coat steel to protect it from corrosion. http://www.reliableplating.com/tin.html
