Mysterious Grinding noise
#11
No drivability issues at 4 wheel works great brakes stop great strong pedal as it always has only hear and feel it at low speeds goes away as soon as release pedal no pulsation nothing almost sounds like when pads are down to nothing but no scoring or wear they old ones looked good but I got a great deal on the new so I just put them on.

Maybe the pads are binding on the caliper bracket.. I just did all 4 sides on mine and notched some slight bend in the brackets, which made the pads too tight on the rails. I bought new brackets, and in the case of the rear I actually grinded down the pad..
I might say pull that drivers side apart for a double check.

I had a similar issue not too long ago. As stated above, I had a bad caliper pin that eventually worked its way out. Made noises similar to what you're saying.

I just noticed the same thing with mine. No pad squeaks or squeels prior to the grinding. No pulsing. It almost feels/sounds it still grinds a sec or two after letting of the brake pedal. Like the callipers are slow to release.

Similar issue on my 2006 F150 XLT SCAB 4b4, pulsing grinding/rubbing noise that was speed related, did not go away when 4WD engaged. Could tell it was from the front axle, but not able to determine which side. Took it to the local Ford store and they found bad wheel bearing on left side, had to replace the hub, ~$550 L&P, now drives like a dream. Years ago I replaced my own wheel bearings, would have needed impact tools to get hub bolts and caliper bolts out.
