My truck shut itself off !!!
On the way home from work tonight , cruzing along at 65 , my truck shut itself off, literly ,like someone turned the key off on me . The truck is a 2005 F150 , 4.6L , 4x4 . On the way to work it was missing , thought maybe i had water in the gas . At lunch the truck started fine , ran good going down the gas station to get some Heet fuel dryer . Let it run for about a half hour and everything was fine , no miss . Started right up at the end of the day as was running fine . Thought great , problem solved . Then shortly after that thought , it quit . Now everything works , lights , chimes , everything , but when you turn the key , nothing . Almost like as if it was in drive when trying to start it . All gauges , warning lights , everything comes on but does nothing when you turn the key . I had the torque converter changed about a month and a half ago and thought perhaps the ground for engine may have come undone . Took jumper cables and connected the ground to the battery ground and the other end to the water pump ,,,nothing . So much for that idea . the truck is full of ice , slush , and salt as the winter here in Michigan has been pretty bad lately . Thinking maybe the connection on the gear selctor on the trans maybe ? At a lose here , any ideas ?

"Why Leave it Stock?"
I feel ya with the Michigan winter thing, I'm from just outside Brighton/Howell here. As far as your truck is concerned, the first thing I would check is your Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM), as it is notorious for this kind of thing. It is underneath your spare tire, so it's kind of a pain to get at. The problem is that they are a computer encased in an aluminum shell, and the shell corrodes until it literally cracks in half. Then, when salt and water and slush get in there, they short it out or cause internal damage. Therefore...no more fuel pump pressure.
Hope this helps!

FPDM thirded ( if that's a word). Looks like this( see attached). Two bolts hold it on. Very easy to replace if you drop the spare tire. New one comes with spacers to space it off the rail it's mounted on, to try to minimize a repeat occurrence. If you take it down an look at the back of it I'll bet there's a hole eaten right through it. Easy DIY fix.

Wouldnt the engine still turn over even if fuel related ? Thought about trying the spare key , but didnt think of looking at the red flashing light while turning the key. Will try the spare tomorrow .

Yes the truck would still turn over if it was the fpdm. It would also still turn over if you were for some reason using a deprogrammed key it just wouldn't fire. In both these conditions the truck will act the same.
