I have a 2006 f150 4x4, no lift or anything special, but I went in the ditch a few weeks back and now a I seem to have a problem.

While in 2wd, if I turn the wheel more then a full rotation either left or right, going either forward or backward, a metal on metal knocking sound occurs until I turn out of it from somewhere in the front left tire area. No sounds while going forward or backward in a straight line though.

While in 4wd, the same sound occurs with the same scenario above, except when I'm fully parked, put in drive, and accelerate, the truck makes a metal on metal noise and makes a small lunge forward all at one time. If I make a complete stop then continue forward it doesn't make the noise if I ease on the throttle, but it will if I press down a little harder on the throttle and that's the same with reverse. But if I'm in drive, make a complete stop, then shift into reverse, accelerate backward, the truck makes the lunge backward with the noise and will do it vice versa.

I've jacked it up and I haven't seen any visible damage in the area, but I happened to put my hand on the front left tire, while it was engaged in 4wd, and it rotated backward, and the front diff rocked with the tire. I noticed the movement and rocked the tire front and back, and the diff moved along with it. I didn't get a good look at the diff or anything but it didn't seem to be broken anywhere or a mount broken or something.

I'm not the most mechanically sound person in the world, so this may be a very obvious problem that I'm just not seeing at all, but Any help would be greatly appreciated!
