Default My kingdom for a part number!

Can anyone check this link:

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...layCatalogid=0

and tell me if I need item #6 "filter assembly" in adding a transmission cooler to my 2005 SXT automatic transmission that does not currently have the transmission cooler? When Ford adds the transmission cooler to a truck, do they also equip it with another external filter?

Also, I figured I'll need the "Return tube", but will my existing pressure tube work? Anyone out there with a transmission cooler on their 4.2 liter truck (new style)?

A thousand thanks for any help.

What is wrong with the original internal trany cooler thats in the radiator? Again, here I go. My 02 F150 XLT 4x2 4.2L pulls my 21 foot Sea Ray Cutty Cabin up a 14 mile grade in second gear at 30-45 MPH. Its a 2900 foot elevation change, by the way, I have left the marina with temps at 118 degrees. Mojave desert. Old school, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Nothing wrong with using the "radiator" setup to cool the transmission. I'm just **** about making my engine and transmission last for as long as I can. Adding an additional transmission cooler will aid in it's longentivity. I'm glad to hear your truck with it's automatic is doing fine without the additional trans cooler. Made my day!

It's item number 6 (filter assembly) that has me stumped. I don't understand what this is for when adding an external transmission cooler. Did Ford add an additional filter for the automatic transmission (above and beyond the inner pan filter in the transmission) when this external filter was installed?

For the record, all my past vehicles got me over 170,000 plus miles on them with little or no major repairs. My 2005 STX has 75K on it now, and I plan to keep it until it gives up the ghost.

Anyone know why this "filter assembly" is in the picture???

item 6 is an add on universal style filter, if you want extra filtration, add it
it is not usually installed at factory but can be added to just about any cooler lines
up to you, if you use it, just replace filter as recommended or could restrict flow and tranny would run hotter
