MPG loss when going with bigger tire?
I am looking at putting 295/70r18 Nitto Trail grapplers on my 2004 5.4L 4x4 Lariat crew with 2.5" level and stock rims. Right now I am running goodyear wrangler ats 275/65r18 (on truck when I bought it.) About how many miles per gallon should I expect to lose?

I've hand calculated my mileage over the past year, I've been running this same stretch of highway 600km long and both tire sizes calibrated on my edge...315 70 17 I was getting about 16.8 mpg average with my 235 80 17 winters about 17.4mpg really not as bad as I thought it would be

So cold in the D
Bingo - as said above - it's the rotational mass increases - and where that weight is - that hurts a LOT. I had the Trail Grapplers; LOVED them, except they are F'ing HEAVY. Stupid Heavy.

Plus, mpg is all about your right foot and thinking ahead before hills and when cruising.. I'm getting around 17.5 MPG's highway with my whipple supercharger if I use my boost wisely.. BTW, I'm rolling on 35" general grabber red letters with a 2.5 level on 20" rims. Plus my bed is never empty, I usually have around 500 lbs of tools or material on board daily.
If I drive fast and boost too much on the highway, I get as low as 11 MPG's.. Lol!
City driving with traffic is usually around 14 MPG's at best.
I boost up hills and average a speed of 70 - 75 mph highway.. My best milage is around 55 - 65 mph, but that's no fun unless I'm cruising down back roads.

I had the same combo. I lifted mine 6" then put on 295/70/18 trail grapplers. I only lose about 1-1.5 max on my mpg. It's a 2006 lariat 5.4L. Btw I also have a K&N CIA and and edge Evo
