Pretty sure on 06 and later models you don't have to remove the valve cover. The VCT sits on top.

Other way around. On the 2004-2006 you don't have to take the valve covers off.

My 08 does the same thing,replaced the cam sensors then the VCT solenoids and it seemed ok for a while but when the engine is hot and low idle ie backing up or turning it does the death rattle again,ford says i need a new motor....Im considering doing an engine swap or 5.0l conversion

if this motor takes a **** on me I'm throwing a Cummins or powerstroke into it cause I've always wanted a diesel haha my body's to clean to junk her

you do have to take them off its on 07-08 you dont

I have a 04 and my cover has to come off I have no entry to get to it... My cover looks like the 07-08 maybe the original owner befor me had them done... Idk my cover has to come off that's what I know lol
