Which Motor oil?

Canadian Tire Motomaster oil filters and Fram are the same. My son used to work there in the parts department so he knows. Maybe that's what Kevhead75 meant. What do you guys think of the quality of Quaker State and Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters?
As for the 2 cases of 10-30 oil, if I can't use it on the 5.4liter, I'll have to use it up somehow.....maybe mix a liter or two with the recommended oil at oil change times??? What do you guys think?

Anything other than 5-20 is a big no in the 3V 5.4. The tight tolerances, oil passages and VCT system is designed to run on it.
Run a MC Fl-820s. It has the proper anti-drain back valve on it, unlike the Frams cardboard one.

This is a thread from my motorcycle forum where a member cut open a few different filters to see how they are made. No Motorcraft filter, but it shows how crappy the fram filter is.

NO if you go to a full syn with high mileage you will have problems with oil making it past all the seals in your engine. Rings for example= a smoky engine.
If you ran full syn. it's entire life stay on it, if you ran dyno oil or a syn. blend keep using that. Keep using what you have been using.

The reason for synthetic is to extend the length of time between oil changes, and to withstand heat breakdown. Regular oil equals 3000 to 3500 between changes. Synthetic can go to 6000 to 7000. Some boast longer intervals. Semi synthetic falls between regular and full synthetic, but I personally treat it as a regular oil, and change it every 3000 when I use it. When it's time to change my oil, I look for the sales. If synthetic goes on sale, I buy it and use it. When semi synthetic is on sale, I use it. I have 92K on my engine, and it has bounced between regular, semi, and full synthetic during it's oil changes. No leaks, no oil burning, no issues with low compression.
And you can mix synthetic oils with semi and even conventional (regular) oils if your down a quart between changes.
To the original poster, I would strongly suggest you visit the companies web sites such as Mobile 1, Royal Purple, and others. They will tell you that you can switch to synthetic at any time without any concerns about your engine seals or gaskets.
I won't respond or debate any oil issues on this post; as It has been done for years.
Bet we see this topic again within a month.....

130,000 miles on my 2000 f150 5.4. Never any engine issues. Ran Motorcraft filters and Castrol 10/40 Syntec. Quiet at startup and still runs strong.
