Default mirror caps

I want to paint my mirror caps. Do the aftermarket caps slide over the factory mirrors? Or do the caps come out?

Since you have an 06 the caps should be a separate piece and they are removable. You need to remove the mirror glass and they either clip on or are held on by a couple screws. My tow mirror caps were held on by clips.

Remove them and take them to your local painter. I think it cost me $100 to get them all painted.

seems like this, with an screwdriver from the bottom part, once you push it from the top. but the screwdriver goes into a plastic thingy in the center of the glass, behind it, not the glass itself or you will break it:

from somewhere else:

Item 4: Exterior Mirror Glass Removal Note

1. Position exterior mirror glass in the full UP position.

2. Locate the notch at the bottom of the exterior mirror glass.
3. Release the exterior mirror glass.
1. Insert a long flat-bladed screwdriver in the notch.
2. Push the screwdriver into the notch until the glass is released.

4. If equipped with heated mirrors, disconnect electrical connectors from the exterior mirror glass.

Item 4: Exterior Mirror Glass Installation Note

1. If equipped with heated mirrors, connect the electrical connector to the mirrors.

2. Position the exterior mirror glass on the mirror motor.

CAUTION: Place a clean shop towel between hand and exterior mirror glass to prevent injury in the event of glass breakage.

3. Place a hand against the back of the exterior mirror housing and a hand flat against the exterior mirror glass. Press the mirror glass in place until it is fully seated.

this is how it looks in the back:

That's ridiculous. Mine were textured and they are holding up great. You can do the prep work (sanding) and save some time and money for the painters.
