Default mileage for fluid changes

Just rolled 100k on my 2008 FX4 and was looking at doing a full tune up. Called up the local Ford dealerships around Columbus and they are wanting around $600 (before my military discout on service) to change the transmission fluid, diff. fluid, transfer case fluid and a coolant flush. I do not use the truck for much more than everyday use and very very rarely tow anything. So i go ahead and have it all done? What is the recommended mileage for these fluid changes.

Anyone? I know what the dealership told me but it always seems like them are trying to squeeze a dime out of someone.

You could do all that stuff yourself for under a hundred bucks in a day, maybe day and a half. That's what I did when I got my truck. REALLY consider it. The hardest part would be the transmission fluid and filter, and that's only because dropping the pan is annoying... so while you're doing it, you could drill the pan and install a drain plug.

The intervals are listed in your manual (newer models) or the Scheduled Maintenance Guide , which is available online if you lost it. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Fo.../08frdmg3e.pdf Note that you can search these online quite easily, hit CTRL F and then type in the term like "transmission".

That's around the same mileage I had mine done with the exception of the Transmission. I assume you have an Automatic and the normal recommendation is every 30k miles. If you haven't been keeping this schedule you may be inviting trouble. Changing the fluid now after 100k miles can cause varnish and other bits to dislodge and jack up the transmission, if you aren't currently having problems i would not do it. The rest of the fluids should not be an issue and as previously mentioned not to hard to do yourself. I let Ford do the radiator because its messy and the old stuff is hard to properly dispose of.

honestly its a small price to pay to have some piece of mind. Doing those little things at worst will prolong the life of your truck. Also if you keep a log of what you do, with receipts it will help the value of your truck on the used market if you try and sell it.
