I am looking at a 2005 Scab XLT and it looks pretty clean but I am just wanting to know if there is anything I need to watch out for if I go test drive it. Seems pretty cheap but is there any common engine problems or anything in that nature I need to know? Planning on lifting, leveling, and getting new rims n tires.

Negotiate a spark plug change in your deal. Also listen for ticking from the engine can phaser problems are common for these trucks.

My dad and I changed the plugs in my 07 5.4 with only one breaking. Previous owner seemed to have changed 7 out of 8 plugs. I bet you can guess which one broke. If you can though work the change in the deal so you don't have to mess with it.

I can probably work the spark plug change into it but what about the phaser problem?

Exactly right. We talked to them about doing mine and they told us for every plug that breaks its $100 to remove it and about $300-$400 to change the plugs if everything goes right. I know the $100 is what they told us. I don't remember exactly on the price if it goes smooth. We bought the special broken plug removal tool for like $65.
