www.carbuyingtips.com is a great sight to read through before buying a new auto. It helped me realize that I screwed myself when buying my fusion and also helped me return the car to the dealer.
After looking at my consumer reports book, I noticed that the 07s are the best model year so far with mostly all of the major quirks have been taken care of. I think you would be better off buying new and like the other guys said, don't look at the payments, I think you would be happier going to a different lot and trying a different approach on a new truck. There is $4000 in customer cash on the new trucks. There will most likely be some rebates coming up next month also. Don't tell them that you have a trade until you have your price. Please read the tips!

Default Study & Research Some More

And are you sure there is no pre-payment penalty for paying additional dollars?

It was said in by another member in a previous post - but you need to be concerned about the total 'out-the-door' price first, then the fair market value of your trade, then any financing terms. Consider these individually - combining them into an end-result monthly payment value muddies waters and hides true profit.
PLEASE look into financing your vehicle independant of the dealership. In a previous post I gave you who I went thru (Capital One Auto Financing) and I went in with a blank check and didn't have to bother w/getting haggled around by the dealership finance office. It makes things SO much easier!!Even if you don't go thru w/it atleast explore all of your options. Like WDE said, you don't want to look back 3months down the road and realize you got screwed!

I was the poster that mentioned the out the door price of your vehicle. DO NOT attempt to negotiate based on what you want your monthly payments to be! In my opinion there seems to be too many variables right now going in to the cost/financing of this vehicle and they're combining too many things in the pot that are going to result in a muddled ending price (most likely in their favor).

I already mentioned this site in an earlier post so please take our advice and go and check this out. Like wde said, I know that it is hard to walk away when you think that you have found the car, but that is your true upper hand that the dealership doesn't want you to know. You CAN walk away and if you don't feel that you are getting a fair market deal on your purchase then you've got to show the restraint and either negotiate further or walk away. B/c unless you have no vehicle to drive right now, then you don't actually need this new one. Trust me, if you let the dealership know that you don't need a new vehicle and are willing to walk away (and mean it!) then they will quickly come around. But you can't act like you are doing them a favor but taking this option or this option. Like you said you didn't know if they would give you the extended warranty with the price drop they already gave you. Well call them on it, and let them know that you are giving them a good deal by even considering this truck that has that many miles on, had a previous smoker, and is a few years already into its warranty. Like others have said, the dealership needs to sell that truck, but you don't need to buy it. You have the upper hand, and you need to make sure that they are aware that you know this.

I want the extended warrany so that freebie thing would be kickass. but might not work if they drop it to 27 as above stated. Maybe I will ask that above and say if not I can settle (????)for this extended warranty plan being a fairy new used truck.

...with the power sliding rear window which i think is badass on a crew cab.
Ok, ok, I know I just posted but after re-reading some of your posts I just had to say someting else and just had to continue beating this dead horse (Hey, a cow was the closest thing I could find, alright?!)

What do you mean the sales guy said that he "might"? Well if he said it, then call him on it and make them put it in writing. They would laugh in your face if you said you would buy the truck but that you "might" think about making your payments every now and then. I would tell him to not "might make it 27" but to "definately make it 26, and to throw in the extended warranty while you're at b/c even at that price your dealership is still making a hell of a killing on this sale". And then stand there and don't blink. If he says "no" or that he has to check w/his manager, then just say "That is alright" and head for the door. I PROMISE YOU that he will say, "Well just hold on a second there buddy".

Man, I am not cracking on you or trying to belittle you at all, I just want to help you and make sure you get the best deal...but you need to grow a backbone (I am saying this in love ) and not be so indecisive and KNOW what you want and not what you only might "settle" for. Man, this is 35K+ MSRP vehicle we're talking here, not some Bath & Bodyworks basket bouquet you're trying to get your girlfriend where you can have some indecision bro. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!! Please, for you own sake. And oh yeah, that electric rear sliding window is indeed badass

If they are offering you 13K for your explorer, thats pretty good. Call up the dealership on the phone and tell them another 12k on top of your exp. 25k would be a fair price on that truck. They will call you back if they are gonna make a profit. If its a repo, they probably have wholesale in it anyways.

Default I'm with Dre,

I walked away from a very good deal and a very good truck only to get exactly what I wanted for exactly what I wanted to pay. If the deal has too many unanswered questions or too many if's or just not exactly pinned down, I walk away. They made more than one copy of that truck, you will find another.
I knew a guy that was braggin' about his monthly payment until he found out they leased him a vehicle without him knowing it. You must always be careful.

well, i would say i def got slammed in here. I am not taking offense by anymeans. Yes I could have gone a diff approach, but i have done those in the past the i offer this and if not i walk. done that in the past and regret it sometimes. Buddies aT WORK RECOMMENDED THIS WAY. Sorry bout the caps.

I am looking at banks, in particular my bank peoples for a loan. already i c theirs has given me a 276 payment for 60 months v their 315 or 330 for 72 months.

Yes i may have rushed slightly. I have gotten a lot of good advice on here. I am in the middle of switching jobs so this may not be the right time. Bit it might be and you never really know till u go for it. Yes i will slow down a bit. I ahve looked at others in the area, and this one is the one that holds my atrention.

I hope I speak for the rest of the post-ers in this thread in that there was no slamming intended.

Heck, we're not buying the truck and not going to be making the payments, so we really have no interest in this matter other than offering our suggestions and personal insights, for better or worse. Just hate to see a fellow forum member pay significantly more than the 'norm' without thoroughly understanding the total picture.

$276 x 60 months versus $315 x 72 months already is a $6000+ difference for the same vehicle. That will buy a lot of gas, even at $3+ per gallon, not to mention any mods you may want to make.

Exactly!! Please understand that I was not saying anything to put you down or belittle you, but I know that strong "spirit" that can come over you when you think you've found "the one" and how easy it can be to kinda lose site of the big picture i.e. making $300+payments for 5,6, or even 7 years! So that is all, just trying to look out for you brotha

HaHa Wde! Right before I scrolled down to your post and was finishing up reading his post before yours I had calculated that same math and was about to post it to him. Looks like we were on the same wavelength...and that is with the dearlership low payments of $315, we didn't even calculate and take into account the higher monthly payments! Well, the decision now rests in your hands. I believe that we have given you the info and equipped you to hopefully make a wise decision that you are not only happy w/now but will also not regret down the road. Good Luck!!

Figure out whats left in the warantee, repairs are not cheap. You will be able to determine why the miles are so low. It sounds like you may as well look at new ones with the incentives that are given out for the money your looking to spend.

I was thinking about that, but I am honestly trying not to spend that much, and was going to get the extended warranty on the truck. Since the current one is still in effect, I have the option to extend it. I was going to do something like 5 years .
