Max towing capacity

Right here:

If its a 2004 FX4, then it has the 5.4L and probably 3.73.
In general, you need to know year, engine, axle ratio, 4x2/4x4, and cab/bed configuration.
They're pretty easy to look up:

According to the Ford's 2008 towing guide, It's 9400LBS. ( I don't think they changed anything substantial since 2004, it's pretty much the same truck).
I can tell you that my towing capacity with a 5.4 and 3.55's in a supercab 6.5' bed 4x4 is 8400lbs. The 3.73's give you another 1000lbs.
P.S. ALL fx4's are 5.4 with 3.73 limited slip rear ends, regardless of cab or bed length.

Yea, but if he has the 5.5ft bed its only 7800lbs. If you have 18" wheels you need to subtract another 500lbs, so that could possibly be down to 7300...

The OP said it was a 2004, why are you comparing it to the 2008? Yes, most of the time things don't change, but why not look up the page for the right year? I'm not sure why this thread needs to keep going, my first post has all the answers he was looking for.

Its listed as 2004-2008, and if he's really that worried, he can click the link himself
Here's the 2004 specific link https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...ailer_F150.pdf, just for you Precious
