Default Mass Air Flow Sensor Question!!

I cleaned my TB and MAF sensor today with some CRC throttle body cleaner. I reassembled everything and the truck is idling very rough, terrible acceleration and the engine and exhaust sound horrible. I took everything apart again and all the connections are all in place. I had a friend press down on the gas pedal when the truck was not running and the TB moves back and forth (fully open on full throttle, then when letting off throttle closes completely for a second, then hangs a little less than 1/8th open - i think this is normal). I re-cleaned the MAF sensor. Still the same problem. Did I wreck my MAF sensor or is this something with the TB? The wires on the MAF sensor all look good, but I can see some minor surface scratches on the metal. It is NOT throwing any engine codes. I disconnected the battery for half hour and pressed the gas pedal to clear the system. Anyone have this same issue?? I might go buy a new sensor at the wreckers tomorrow and see if that does anything.

Uh, first, I hope you didn't use TB cleaner on the MAF. I paid $12 for a can of TB cleaner for the TB and MAF cleaner for the MAF. I let the MAF air dry for a half hour before I even started putting everything back together. Second, if your battery is disconnected for a half hour to 45 minutes, when reconnected the PCM has to relearn the idle. There are several relearn "how to's" on the forum. When I did the relearn I let it idle for 5 minutes no accessories on. Drove for 5 more with no accessories then blasted the ac for at least 10 more minutes with regular in town driving. During the relearn the ac blew hell hot air the whole time. It didn't cool off until the next day when I cranked it up to go to work.

Ya i used TB cleaner...and I did the relearn process both times with no success. I ran the truck with the sensor unplugged and it ran way rougher than when plugged in and there a code. This means the sensor is somewhat working at least, but looks like Im off to the wrecker for a $50 sensor tomorrow. I will update after installing new used one.

School of hard knocks. Always use a MAF sensor cleaner to clean the MAF sensor. Your new sensor should bring the truck back to life.

I'm in the same boat as you. I cleaned my MAF with CDC MAF cleaner and at first she was running better but now, she idles fine but when I get on her she's a mess. I think my MAF is just shot. She's got 109, 000 on her and I didn't do her any justice by running her for about a year with no filter at all. I'm just going to break down and by her a brand new OEM 1.

@06Beast --> I doubt your MAF is the issue if it idles fine. You are not in the same boat as the OP as he cleaned his with throttle body cleaner instead of MAF cleaner. It a little wire sensor in there that is very sensitive. You can't just clean it with anything. When the MAF is dirty, it affects idle speed. I think you have other issues to look at. Plugs and fuel filter is where I would start.

I actually just replaced the fuel filter 2 months ago and the old one didn't even seem clogged. I did the plugs about a year ago and also replaced the fpmd 2 months ago.

did you dump the fuel filter. I turned the side toward the engine down and clean fuel came out. I thought "well, there's $10 bucks I wasted. Oh well." Then I turned the rear side down and out came the mud. That $10, 5 minute project turned into $60 savings for me. And some piece of mind that my new filter will be keeping that line clean. Just curious.

also, when you did the plugs did you do the boots or cops? Rough idle could be misfire too. Maybe a cop is on the fritz.
