Lowering shackles
I plan to install 2" lowering shackles on my truck when it gets here from the factory and have been looking at a couple of brands.
I noticed that the Ford Racing set includes shims for the axle, but none of the aftermarket ones do, to include DJM and other "brand" names.
My question is "are these shims really necessary for a 2" drop? If not, why does Ford include them and nobody else does?

No Pain, No Pain!
A couple of the members here have lowered their trucks. Maybe they can help you with this question. Or, you could email the other manufacturers and ask them if the shims are really necessary.

I lowered my 2004 f150 fx4 2" in the rear with the shackles. There was a very noticable vibration at approx 20-30 mph. The lowering changes the driveshaft angle. I ordered and installed 2 and a 1/2 degree shims and the problem was solved. Yes they are needed, you should get the kit that has the shims included.

projump,
Where did you get the shims and how much were they? I have noticed that the price of shackles varies and I may be able to come out cheaper by buying a non-Ford set and the shims. The Ford set is $120.

You might want to go with the ford kit because if any thing goes wrong with the kit, you can still get warranty coverage. I wouldn't blow a warranty over a 120 dollar part.
