Default Low viscosity oil requirements

Looked at the Haynes repair manual, along with the Ford owners guide. Both recommend 5w-20. Since this my first Ford with the V6 (4.2 liter), is this what you all stick with? The truck has 74K miles on it with great oil pressure. I live in the Dallas Texas area (hot summer climates right now). In past engines, I always ran the 10-30 or 10-40 weights (depending on outside temps).

Is this oil recommended for fuel economy purposes? Since the truck runs great, I'll continue with it's recommendation; I just find that this is a low viscosity level compared with other vehicle I've owned. I figured with higher mileage, I'd want to consider a higher viscosity in it's future.

And I do not intend to start any sort of oil debate; just courious about this oil recommendation.

I stick with the 5-20 as Ferd recommends. My Sonoma suggests 5-30 and that is what I run. I run Mobil1 synthetic as I have had good luck with it.

Just my $0.02
