Low, low end power
Lately I've been noticing that I have low power while I’m at lower RPM, specifically on hills. There are a few hills in my neighborhood that are 35-45 mph. While in first gear it drives great but as soon as I get up to speed and it shifts to 2nd it gets sluggish. If I put my foot on the floor to force it to shift later then it seems to act okay in second (I don't have a tach so I don't have specific RPMs). On one hill if it shifts before I hit 45 mph then I get stuck going ~40mph until I hit the top of the hill due to lack of power. Every once in a while, while its struggling to go up hill, I will hear some pops coming from the engine like its back firing. As soon as I stomp on the gas and it downshifts it stops. About 6 months ago I was having issues so I changed my plugs that seemed to take care of it until I noticed the backfiring. Any tips on what could be wrong, things to look at first? I’ve only had the vehicle since February, could it just be the fact that it has the small V8 in it?
I checked my coils before I did the plugs and they seemed like they were working fine and I’ve ran a few bottles of the Lucas injector cleaner over the last few months. I've noticed this both with an empty bed and a light load.

How did you check the coils? Are there any codes or a CEL?

No codes. The way I checked to coils was going through one by one and unplugging them while it idled. I know its not the best way to check them but it gave a pretty good idea of what was going on.

What brand of plugs did you use?

Any logged misfires? Im leaning towards the COPs

As far as I'm aware removing them or swapping them are the only ways to check them. Its not 100% test. A few of the other users on here have had luck with coils off of Amazon, not sure which ones exactly but you can buy 2 sets (16) for less than the price of Motorcraft ones. Then you have extras to swap in case you get a bad coil.
