a junk yard or ford. And it's probably cam phasers or timing chains.

Drove it to mechanic to have them listen while he was listening it made a loud screeching noise and locked up and died he said the cam on that side locked up and I am probably going to need to replace the engine. Does this sound right?

a lash adjuster probably failed and jammed your valvetrain. I would at least take off the valve cover and look for yourself. If that's the case you may want to attempt to replace the cam and all lifters and lash adjusters rather than plunking down a few grand for a rebuilt engine.

If the programmer was saying your bank was retarded, it probably has something to do with your VCT system. That gen engine has had that problem since the first one rolled off the line. Anything from a broken chain, phaser, chain tensioner / guide, tensioner seal... only way to know is to take the covers off and have a look. And if the cam stopped spinning as a result, yes, you will probably need a new engine or at the very least complete reman.
