Default Loud noise when driving

Hey Guys

I am new to this forum but, I need some help. I have a 2005 ford f150 supercrew cab. It was running fine until the very cold day we had back in late January/early February here in New Jersey. Then it started running really loud only when I would be driving. The loud noise is coming from the drivers side front. When I come to a stop the noise gradually stops. However, the other day, it was really loud then it sounded like metal scraping then something broke off. This happened three times where something broke off. It doesn't impede the driving of the truck at all. What's crazy is, I don't see the pieces that broke off. This is bizarre. Thanks for any help with this one.

Joe

So you had this issue 2+ months ago, and you are now wondering what it is? "Something broke off" - how do you know that if you don't have pieces?

I would immediately stop driving until a mechanic looks at it. A guess would be your brake pad is shot and you're grinding metal on your rotors.

It's not the breaks. I'm thinking more like the heat shield. But not sure.
