at a loss

That's a lot of noises. Are you talking about the ticking sound that is similar to baseball cards in bike spokes? If so, it's your 4wd. Either the solenoid behind the battery, a pinhole in a vacuum line, a check valve, or most likely, your IWE.
Next time it does it, flip your selector to 4wd high, and it will go away.

I am pretty much out of ideas on this. Seems like a loose connection somewhere, or something is shorting out.

My truck is doing the exact same thing. Battery light comes on, then the voltage spikes, then I lose all my gauges, p/w, p/l, and blower for the A/C. The truck runs fine while all of this is happening too.
A couple weeks ago Auto Zone tested the battery and alternator and they checked out ok. He did mention he thought he saw the voltage spiking, but in the same sentence he said his voltage tester was a piece of ****.
Last week the truck went in to the dealer for a diagnostic check. They said the alternator was over charging at 15+ volts. They also said it was the PCM that was telling the alternator to over charge...I know it's possible, but i'm sceptical.
So their recommended fix is a new alternator and PCM, and the PCM is on back order til at least the end of June...
I pulled the alternator off yesterday and am getting a new one Friday to see if is the only culprit. If that doesn't fix it, i've found PCM's on Ebay that I just might give a shot.
Keep this thread up to date OP, and I will report back as I try things too.

That noise is from the IWE.
When you gauges lose power so does the IWE solenoid. So no power to the solenoid it dumps the vacuum and the IWE try to engage.
So in short fix your electrical problems and it should go away.
I had the same problem the alternator I got from Advanced seems to be working alright.
Would have went with a Motorcraft but the alternator **** the bed in Ohio and I live in NH

replaced the alternator and drove it around. Seems to be alright. Now the issues are my side view mirrors don't move, the rear slide window doesn't turn on, and the radio turns on and off
