Default Losing Power Steering

Over the past few months, I have noticed that my power steering isn't really working at low speeds, like in parking lots. Higher speed driving has no problems. I am thinking that it is my power steering pump that needs to be replaced, but wanted to check here first. My power steering fluid is at the normal level, I just don't think the pump is building enough pressure for low speed turning. 2006 5.4 4x4 if that matters.

Sounds like you need to lube the intermediate shaft. Sounds like it is binding. I doubt it's your pump, it could be, but you require the most assist while sitting still in parking lots and such. The circuit pressure has to be enough then to move the piston back and forth.

I second this
When my shaft bound up it was like I had no power steering and I had to return wheel to center after turns

Thank you for the link! That helps, I will try lubing it first before buying a new lower shaft. What kind of lube should I use?
