I've moved my mirrors in and out with the switch at least 20 times and the mirror on the right side is still loose and rattles. There simply must be some way to tighten the damn thing. Help!

Spring Nut is not pressed tight enough against the spring that holds the mirror in the detent position (normal position). I tightened my spring nut up, but it went loose again the next time I rotated the mirror in and back out, so that solution will not work, even though it is the root cause solution. (ADDED LATER>>>>> I think the coil spring that can be seen in the crevice of the spring nut in the photo is too small diameter (outer diameter). When the force is applied, the coil spring (just barely visible through the crevise) pushed the tines of the sprint nut too close to the tip of the tine. THe design should use a larger diameter coil spring that pushes the spring nut at the perimeter of the spring nut (far away from the non-threaded-shaft).

My solution that completely stopped the wind buffeting noise at highway speed conditions, is this, and believe me, I tried SEVERAL solutions.

I got a brand new tube of silicon sealer (clear). I manually pivoted the mirror in and put silicone at every exposed point (all the surfaces that are normally hidden when the mirror is in normal (detent) position). Then I rotated the mirror out and put a layer of silicon sealer in all the newly exposed areas. THen rotated the mirror to it's normal (detent) position and let it dry for 24 hours.

If you want to get inside the mirror I can tell you how to do that as well. Let me know. Also... see

This fixed the noise.
