Looking into buying 04 gen F150, couple questions
I've tried searching the forum and I haven't found much, mainly because I'm not sure what I'm looking for. My plan is to buy an F150 as my second car and I was just looking for some opinion on a couple of the ones I've found.
A)
2004 Ford F150 XLT Lariet Truck with 5.4 Triton, automatic, leather seats, power everything, good tires, $5500 165000 miles
B)
2005 Ford f150 good tires ac $4700 160,000 miles
So which one looks like the better deal if there is one. Just wondering. They're both within my price range so the $800 difference was no big deal. I was leaning towards the XLT lariat purely because it seems to be in awesome shape and is a nicer trim from what I can tell. Also has bedliner. And on the gold one, why is the plastic everywhere on the front? Is that removable or just part of that trim on the truck. Thanks.

The second truck looks like an XL, which is the bottom line package. That explains the plastic you refer to. I'd go with the first truck as well. Nicer trim package and the miles are negligible at that point.

Second one. Cheaper to buy. Cheaper to own. Less stuff to break. Most likely a 4.6 and at that mileage if the timing stuff hasn't been taken care of you're in for a treat with an 04 5.4. 4.6 is more dependable. XL may be "base" but less stuff to break costing you less money in the long run. If your getting it as a secondary vehicle, IMO the XL will be the way to go.

I would go with the first one. Are you mechanically inclined? The cam phasers and spark plugs are the two real issues with these trucks. Check to see if either job has been done. The spark plugs really aren't too bad for an average tech guy. The cam phasers are a little more involved but with the hop of this forum you shouldn't have too many issues getting through it.
