for me a used 2006 with ticking actually meant that 6 of the 8 spark plugs were loose (good loosen without a rachet)...

^^^Sweet, but it could mean way worse. It could also be a exhaust manifold leak.

My 5.4s ticked faintly and they were fine. Faint ticking is normal for the 5.4. Good engine. Good truck.

Really??? I have had 2 of the 5.4's, a 2 valve and a 3 valve. 175K on my 2V with no ticking and 120K on my 3V with no ticking.

Back on track, OP, take it to a mechanic for a thorough check up, that will be the tell-tale sign of whats wrong if anything.

What Kind of vehicles have you been driving in the past... Guys, he could just be hearing injector tick, They are quite loud compared to some other engines...

Yea, it could very well be the injector. I have a faint tick, always have since purchase., even for both trucks I've owned. You'd have to compare side by side because I don't really know how to explain the ticking sound.
